Finding the foundation for success

Helical 4A few years ago I saw a firsthand what happens when a foundation cracks and begins to give way. It started as a small crack – and actually stayed small for a while – but soon began to grow and develop until it put the house’s structural integrity in jeopardy. Turns out other homes in the area had experienced similar problems, and it was all traced back to a single contractor – no surprise – that had used a poor batch of concrete. The section of the damaged foundation had to be dug out, removed and replaced, which was no doubt as expensive as it sounds. Continue reading

With the tough winter across the US extra salt was needed to keep the roads safe, and due to this need Shawnee County, a county surrounding Topeka, Kansas, required a larger building for the county’s road salt storage. After researching several fabric tension storage buildings, Tom Flanagan, Deputy Director of Public Works Shawnee County, determined an engineered ClearSpan Hercules Truss Arch Building was the right solution for his Public Works Department. Off to the Races: Customer Spotlight on Gulfstream Park

Among other world-renowned races, Gulfstream hosts The Florida Derby, The Donn Handicap, Sunshine Millions Series and The Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap. In the summer of 2013 Gulfstream Park received over 4,000 stall applications for its upcoming Winter Racing Season. With about 2,000 existing stalls on its property, Gulfstream called on ClearSpan to manufacture and install 100,000 square feet of additional thoroughbred stall space. Continue reading

Customer Spotlight: Saving the environment one bottle at a time

Glass Recycle CenterWithout a curbside glass recycling program, the residents of Kansas City, MO were throwing away 150 million pounds of glass a year. Only 5% of its glass was being recycled (well under the US average of 30%) because Kansas City lacked a local glass processor. The owner and founder of a Kansas City based brewery knew that this yearly waste included an estimated 10 million empty bottles from his brewery. With the support of local companies and organizations, he started up a recycling center that processes glass to sell as furnace-ready cullet to a local customer to be turned into fiberglass.
