Customer Spotlight: Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club

120 x 120 Rockwall Tennis CourtsIn 1970, the town of Rockwall, Texas – about 25 miles northeast of Dallas – and architect Ralph Plummer constructed The Shores Country Club on nearly 200 acres along picturesque Lake Ray Hubbard. Overtime, it spurned development of more than 1,300 homes, providing the Rockwall community with a true country club. A mere 40 years later amid declining membership, the club closed, and what seemed to be the end became a resurrection into something more.

In 2012, Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club was born under new management. The vision of the new leaders was to create more of a family-oriented club with more amenities. The homes, the families and the lake was there. The golf course and swimming facilities endured a massive overhaul. But it was the tennis programs and facilities that have improved membership and drawn more families to the club in recent years.

120 x 120 Rockwall Tennis CourtsJoey Molina is the Head Tennis Professional at Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club and has been the tennis director for two years. Though the club’s eight lighted hardcourts provide sweeping views of the lake, the tennis programs, clinics and lessons can be at the mercy of inclement weather. After conducting some research on the Internet, Molina found ClearSpan Fabric Structures and ultimately chose a 120’W by 120’L indoor athletic facility due to its low cost and appeal.

Rockwall Tennis Courts“We can now play tennis indoors!” exclaimed Molina. “Now that we have two of our courts covered, we can remain active when it rains.” What’s more, the technology of the high-density polyethylene fabric cover provides exceptional light permeability and also keeps the building up to 20 degrees warmer in the winter and 20 degrees cooler in the summer. “The combined natural daytime lighting and comfortable environment really makes this building unique,” Molina added.

Overall, the new athletics & recreation building from ClearSpan has worked out very well for Molina and the members of the suburban metroplex country club. Improvements continue at Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club, and Molina’s decision to work with ClearSpan couldn’t have come at a better time. “Tennis is a year-round sport,” said Molina. “A ClearSpan building is the best and most economical way to go…rain or shine!”
